Understanding the fish is only part of shore fishing. Equally vital is an appreciation of the marine life on which they depend, the small sea creatures  which are their food. Of these, perhaps the most important are the lugworm, ragworm and crab. On the other hand depending on locality, shellfish such as razor fish and slipper limpets can be equally as effective as bait.

In these pages we describe how to collect, prepare and present some of the most popular baits.
